Please Bring The Punisher (2005) Back to Steam
Hez everyone!
,

I think many of us still remember the absolute masterpiece that was The Punisher (2005) — developed by Volition and published by THQ. It was one of the most brutal, stylish, and story-driven third-person shooters of its time, perfectly capturing the dark, gritty world of Marvel’s antihero.

Sadly, this game has been lost to time. It’s not available on Steam or any other major digital platform today, mainly due to expired licenses between Marvel and the original publisher. But the demand for this classic has never gone away.

Just look around gaming communities, Reddit, and YouTube — thousands of fans still replay it, mod it, and wish for an official digital re-release. With companies like THQ Nordic and Marvel Games reviving older titles lately, now would be the perfect time to bring The Punisher (2005) back to life on Steam (and maybe GOG too).

This game deserves a second chance — updated for modern systems, maybe even with achievements and widescreen support.

Unfortunately both THQ and Volition went bankrupt so there's no real way to contact them. And once THQ is gone, the IP is a lost cause so the only way to get the game is through abandonware sites.

Wrong, Marvel still has rights to The Punisher that they gave to THQ and Volition for licensing. Marvel can still bring this game to Steam if they want.

I'd prefer they get the Ar tonelico series on here instead, but any game that isn't on here should be.

It is a damn shame all of the old games that are gone ... no longer to be played at all unless you own the physical copy AND in most cases the console to play them on.

The game stores AND developers/publishers are making a HUGE mistake by letting those games die off.

That would indeed be the job of Abandonware to preserve such games. At least until the IP holders decided to hammer them with a strike, which usually happen when they want to restart the IP again.
I have fond childhood memories of renting this game from Blockbuster and playing on the OG Xbox. Would love to see it come back to Steam, although I have a PS2 copy.

Even then, its a game from 2005 and Marvel has no interest in bringing it to Steam so it's rendered abandonware. It's a two decades old, after all.

No they couldn't. They own the license. They don't own the game. Which is likely in legal limbo.

Same with that King Kong game, just stuck in limbo due to licensing.
