Steam Account phishing attempt
Someone tried to steal my Steam Account and told me he accidentally "reported me for piracy" and at first I believed it since he sent a picture of a "Steam support" message that actually seemed believable. I then made a ticket to steam telling them it was an accident, and they tell me all of a sudden that I'm supposed to message "valve_moderator_support" on Discord and I felt that something was off and after a little research and quick google searches I figured that it wouldn't make sense for Valve to communicate with others over a different platform which would just not make any sense so I immediately called him out and he got mad and tried to cover himself but I still kept telling him that he was a f*cking scammer and he eventually blocked me. His Discord Username is "jhowen" please report him over Discord, and something that made him even more suspicious is that his Account was made on October 3rd 2025 which is today.

You report discord scam & phishing attempts to discord as that's their platform.

I know. Still disgusted that these types of people exist.

If no one came here, there wouldn't be any posts like this. So someone has to be here, don't you think?

Unfortunately, there are no official statistics on people who informed themselves before falling victim to fraud.

STOP USING DISCORD! There are already many scammers on steam. Why do you download some crappy third party launcher to use? And yes, it is a third party launcher. It plays games. Search for Discord activities.

Unfortunately, one of the problems with this is that every wannabe developer and publisher on this platform provides little or no customer support and prefers to lure consumers into their own Discord channels.

Contact addresses? Forms? Or even email? It's all overrated. Here you go, Discord link. Deal with it.

This type of "customer support", without further options and in some cases with a complete lack of transparency, hidden profiles and missing alternatives even violates and undermining EU and regional law (depending on location, of course) with regard to consumer protection/rights, competitiveness e.g. but many responsible just don't care. The same irresponsibility can also be seen among the users themselves. We see this here almost every day.

In addition the Discord plague has been embedded in many games since a longer time, whether as a call-to-action mechanism, advertising element, rich presence or as telemetry service. Or all together. In some cases, this is even mandatory forced as otherwise a game can no longer be launched, if the relevant files are deleted or blocked. Pretty sneaky system...

In short, putting oneself at risk in the digital world has never been easier than it is today.

report, block and move on

I also experienced the same thing, I almost got scammed. At first, someone told me that he reported my account for illegal purchases, and he asked me to clarify with Steam support that this report was wrong. I initially believed it, then I notified Steam support according to the scammer's instructions, then I started to get suspicious when "Steam support" asked for Steam's phone number, then I found a discussion discussing that this was a scam.

And also the date the scammer's discord account was created inOctober 3rd

That should of been a red flag there.

The statistic is that everyone who has fallen for fraud did not inform themselves prior as falling for fraud would indicate they knew nothing of it or its methods. Had they informed themselves prior then it is hardly considered fraud at that point. "Hm that guy hiding in a dark alley watching people walk by is likely going to rob me. I'll go walk by there anyways"

Which statistics? Name them.

Knowledge reduces risk, but does not eliminate it. Even well-informed people can be fooled/tricked.

Common sense is one statistic. Again if someone is aware they are going to be in a situation of fraud at that point it is not fraud but voluntary action by someone letting another take advantage of them.
