I got banned for 12 years
Hello everyone,

I’d like to share my situation and maybe get some advice:

When I first created my Steam account, I invested a lot in games to enjoy with my friends. Everything was perfect and I thought this account was so stable that I could even pass it down to my child someday.

A few weeks ago, I accidentally deleted the Steam app on my phone because of a bug that prevented me from confirming purchases. After that, I lost access to Steam Guard and couldn’t log in properly. My phone number also had issues and I couldn’t receive SMS codes.

I contacted Steam Support and asked them to remove Steam Guard and my phone number so I could recover access. They did allow me to recover the account, but later my account was hit with a community ban until 2038 because I had made a purchase with a Turkish gift card and unboxed a knife in CS:GO.

I followed up with Support and even sent them photos of my ID and my face, but they closed the ticket again and told me I needed to add a card from my own region. Unfortunately, since Steam Guard was disabled, I couldn’t add any payment method — I only got an error saying Steam servers were experiencing problems.

I also tried to re-activate Steam Guard with my new number, but it said: “You cannot activate Steam Guard on this account.”

Now I’m stuck:

I can’t spend the balance from my CS:GO case drop.

I can’t buy keys or new games.

I can’t play community games like Counter-Strike.

Years of playtime and memories with friends are just gone.

I want to clarify: I have never cheated or broken Steam rules. I just had technical issues with Steam Guard and region restrictions, and it snowballed into this.

It feels hopeless — I don’t even feel like creating a new account and starting over.

Has anyone else been through something like this? Is there any way to resolve it with Steam Support?

Thanks for reading. :sothappy:

2038 is a placeholder - the ban is actually permanent.
Your account hasn't had $5 or more added to it yet and you somehow unboxed a knife in CS2?

This smells very fishy.

If their main account is permanently community banned, they can't post from it, assuming of course that OP is telling the truth. Most likely they were caught region hopping.

In any case only Steam Support can do anything about it and if they say no, that's about it then.

I could believe that if the limited account they are posting from wasn't created over 3 years before the thread claiming they just got banned.
Yea I get the distinct feeling OP leaves some crucial info out ....

previous posts are just egging.

You put money in the steam account in turkish gift card. Not illegal. you then somehow bought a cs:go item and used it. not illegal.

NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR STEAM GUARD

YOU-----<<i deleted my steam guard. OK while that's not anyone's fault but yours, you may request it be removed to regain access.

YOU-----<<I had changed my PHONE number. OK! not anyone's fault but yours, and you may update the account.

YOU----->>verified with Steam, regained access but now are experiencing issues.

Let's be clear here.

You have to wait for some time to go by as you just had access issues. Even with verification, Steam requires some time to pass. Unsure why that matters since you have verified. Not really important to keep the temp system cooldown time after regaining access when you just passed verification's.

That's everyone's issues too. no matter who you are. Steam guard is a security feature and when they are removed or changed the account has to "cooldown" because because.

Secondly, using Gift cards not used in the Steam account's default language "USD" means residents have to proceed to buy stuff with caution. If you change the currency frequently, you'd probably get used all the issues and conversion changes when spending.

Again, be patient! you're not doing anything wrong.
