⚠️ Warning: Phishing Scam Encountered on Steam ⚠️
⚠️ Warning: Phishing Scam Encountered on Steam ⚠️

Today I encountered a scammer. He pretended to need my help boosting something related to his account, and then sent me a link asking me to “help boost his team.”

At first glance, if you’re a kind or trusting person, you might think he’s just another genuine player who’s serious about the game and hoping someone will help. But that’s not the case.

The website he sent leads to a fake Steam login page — it’s clearly a phishing site. If you enter your username, email, and password there, you’re basically handing over the keys to your account. Your account could then end up for sale on some shady online shop for a cheap price.

Below is the chat history I had with him (for reference and awareness):

[17:29] Blaze: hello [21:47] Tong(9G): What’s up? [21:47] Blaze: What's your CS rank? [21:48] Tong(9G): I’ve never played CSGO [21:49] Blaze: Could you please help by giving a Boost Rep to my team? [21:49] Tong(9G): Nope [21:50] Blaze: Elite CS2 Tournament Platform - Compete for Real Prizes 🏆 Professional CS2 Tournament Platform | ⚔️ Real Money Prizes | 🎯 Elite Competition | 🔒 Anti-Cheat Protected | 🌍 Global Rankings | 💰 Cash Tournaments | 🎮 Competitive Gaming | 🏅 Skill-Based Matchmaking | 🔥 Live Tournaments | ⚡ Fast & Secure | 🎪 Premium Features | 🚀 Join the Elite [The Link Here I can't show you all] Don't Click Found it? I'm waiting for you to do it It won't take more than a minute Thank you! [21:52] Tong(9G): Lol see ya in hell [21:53] Blaze: Will you help my team? [22:06] Tong(9G): Did you send the phishing link to Dev? LOL [22:06] Blaze: please help [22:07] Tong(9G): Help what Help u to get my account?

Stay safe out there and never log in to Steam through unofficial links. Always double-check the URL before entering your credentials.

The "Vote for my team" variants of the phishing scam link has been going around for over a decade.

you do know steam got a FAQ - https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/70E6-991B-233B-A37B
i know you are trying to safe people, but in few cases it will be to late. and there is quite a few threads regarding scams

As mentioned, very old scam type, which happened to me too but i knew it was a scam due to reading lots of available informations beforehand.

Helping is nice but people who don't know or find already existing support FAQ's and guides
probably won't read your PSA either, except when it's already too late.

As you can see, lots of different informations about that topic.
I got the same massage a few hours ago, word for word, might be a bot, blocked them and reported their account.

OP you missed all the other threads warning about this exact type of scam.
Its quite astounding how people discover scams exist on Steam when they have been around for basically forever and happen on a daily basis, most likely hundreds or thousands of times.
I just got hit with this one. Someone sent a friend request from another friends account. I accepted. Next day (today), they asked what my CS rank was and sent link requesting a Team Boost. I clicked the link thinking...Ok sure, I clicked it, then it sent me to an external site and I was like...Yeeaaahhh, nooooo, this is dodgy as hell. Immediately looked it up here and low and behold. And I mean it was WORD FOR WORD this:

"Found it?
I'm waiting for you to do it
It won't take more than a minute
Thank you!"

Is a password change necessary from just clicking the link? I didn't enter any info or click further.

As long as you didnt enter any details nothing should be happening.
That said, its still a website run by scammers. Best to avoid at all if you want to make sure.

Its not advised to include links to their profile as it could be seen as a rule violation. Just report them.
dangit i fell for this and just lost all my items
