Moderation here leaves something to be desired.
I got banned from the starfield forums, again..... for a post I made replying to a person who is on the forums, only disrupt them. Unfortunately, I told him exactly what I think... So, yeah, the ban likely was deserved, but, 7 days? That seems a bit excessive....

That said, I contacted support about the matter, and just got a canned response. "Don't respond, just report".... Right, the standard boilerplate response. I replied to that one, explained to them that moderation on the SF forums was not precisely well balanced.... Some members seem to be able to get away with anything. Others, step a toe out of line, you get a vacation. There are a group of folks on there, that are there SPECIFICALLY to disrupt the forums, and cause issues. Everyone there knows it, everyone there knows who they are. There is even a thread there discussing it. (but, not naming anyone.....) I mentioned this to steam support, and the fact that there are threads there based on flat out lies, that remain going, regardless of how often they are reported. To me, it seems that reporting anything is akin to shouting into the wind. Nothing happens. And what do I get back? Don't respond, just report...... Wow. Did anyone actually READ what I wrote?

I was also told that Valve Devs 'regularly read the forums'..... To which, I expressed my disbelief. If Devs are reading that shlock, and leaving it up, then there is something REALLY wrong here. Never have I had the displeasure of being a member of a worse run forum than here on steam. There is zero active moderation, and the 'moderation' we do get, don't seem to be actual live people...... Any response you get is simply more boilerplate. On occasion, you might get a response from a real human..... But, to me, that seems rare.

I would REALLY like to know what the point of having rules is, if moderation doesn't enforce them equally? And if you get a mod in a bad mod, you get banned for the stupidest of reasons. It gives the appearance that the mods are on the side of the disrupters, and there are a fair few examples of that. What is the point of reporting threads/posts, if nothing ever happens? I mean really, I thread based on a KNOWN LIE, is left up, even after being reported numerous times. A thread specifically intended to cause problems..... And valve devs ostensibly read the forums "regularly". That's an outright laughable concept. If they are reading that garbage, and leaving it up, they need to find different jobs......

This place NEEDS ACTIVE moderation. And so long as we don't have it, Steam Forums, at least some of them, will remain the toxic cesspool that they are today. And have been for TWO YEARS. Yeah, that's stayin' right on top of things Steam........ Well, ok, maybe not.

Retaliation and "but he did it first" doesn't sanction behavior that breaks ToS.
Bans are cumulative, regardless of offense. If you get another ban, expect 2 weeks.

Then 1 month.

It keeps going up the more you get banned.

There is no “per basis” system. It’s a strike system.

Eventually you’ll get either a years long, or permanent ban.

Moderation and support are not handled by Valve. It’s outsourced to a third party company.

The game hub mods can skip the other lengths and do a full perma ban.

One dude over in the ATS hub was caught ban evading on two alts and jumped from 0 bans to permanent instantly. Lol

Ah yes. Thank you.

I forgot to mention that Game Hubs can be possibly different. Depending on how they’ve opted to moderate.

Devs are given the option to appoint moderators of their choosing or default to Steam’s third party company.

How your ban is handled may also depend on this.
If something is happening multiple times, report it or contact the Developer if you want more involved moderation for their game hub. Generally steam mods only act on content they deem actionable based on reports. Bans get worse over time too.

Yeah, some hubs won't tolerate that.

oh aye? well, unfortunately theres nothing to be done about it. valve decided to outsource moderation and context often no longer matters.

At some point, a ridiculously wealthy gamer will get fed up and lawyers will get involved forcing Valve to do something about it. With any luck they'll either go back to more live mods or scrap the forum completely. And if they can't fix it, just scrap it.

Many have threatened, to no avail.
Steam discussion forum mods allow OP of threads insult half the planet, yet when someone bites back he's banned for a week.

100% agree.

To be fair I dont mind it, but at the same time I dont understand how they even become mods, its pretty ridiculous Steam permits some powerhungry snowflakes to be in that position.

The Steam discussions aren't the right place to dispute specific bans. We encourage you to contact Steam Support.
