Best horror games for Halloween!
Since it's soon Halloween and the steam scream fest starts in a few days I wanted to ask for recommendations. What horror games would you recommend? Personally I really enjoy the games from puppet combo but I am interested in almost everything horror

Withering Rooms

If you’re wanting more low-poly horror games (similar visual style to Puppet Combo games):

Cult of the Lamb
Desvelado
Dredge
Fran Bow

Wow those are more games than I expected. I will go through literally all of them so thank you so much for the recommendations!
Two Point Museum has a Vampire Survivors crossover for halloween.
I should also mention the "too spooky 4 me" game: Alien: Isolation. Just in case you haven't played it.

Nice Fear & Hunger, Obscure series, Signalis, Silent Hill f & especially Pathologic mention. Forgot about those. Fantastic mention of the earlier Fatal Frame’s (1 and 3 still haven’t seen the remake treatment), Kouldelka and Shadow Hearts 1 & 2 (though those-like Fear & Hunger-have heavy RPG elements-while lacking the Soulslike difficulty of Fear & Hunger).

Also massive shoutout for Bloodborne, Eternal Darkness, Rule of Rose, and especially Haunting Ground (Clock Tower 3’s pretty good too)-but I personally think-so far at least, Haunting Ground & Fatal Frame/Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse are my favorite horror games of all time. There’s just something about them that’s special.

For the record, though, Fatal Frame V IS on Steam, and the remake of Fatal Frame II (most people’s favorite, not mine) I go in-between the original and IV constantly-is coming to Steam soon.

You are very welcome. Please do read the reviews on them because both myself and (IMO) salmander mentioned some pretty niche titles that might not be up your alley at all. Some of them have what many now consider “outdated mechanics”-think tank controls & point-and-click movement, etc. Also, some of the titles can be unbelievably harsh to newcomers until you realize what you’re doing/get a handle on the controls (Clock Tower: Rewind, Song of Horror, Tormented Souls, White Day, Withering Rooms, even Desvelado to an extent)

Then there’s the games where being hard is just part of the experience (the Fear & Hunger games, the Pathologic games (particularly the first-the sequel’s basically a more polished and accessible version of the original), and as for Bloodborne…it’s a Souls game…it’s difficult.

Yea i saw that in my news feed too.

I still prefer playing with GzDoom. Also, disappointing that Hexen 2 and Heretic 2 didn't get the same treatment. The Serpent Rider saga is incomplete.
