Depends on if the game devs set it up to do so or not.

:qr:
my ps4 controller used to work fine in many games, and the buttons shown were ps buttons...but on those same games the ps5 controller doesnt work like that..

Did you enable

Steam-Settings-Controller-General Controller Settings- [V] PlayStation Configuration Support

after you've changed controllers?

The game ahs to support PS4 styled inputs

Most games dont since PS4 support on windows basically is non-existent so most devs dont bother to put ps prompts in their games

Since xinput is basically what is required for the xbox, they can use their existing console code to put in xbox prompts into the game. And again since xinput is standard in windows its easier to just put xbox prompts

for example, games like AC Origins and The Witcher worked fine with the PS4 controller and showed PS buttons but with the PS5 controller it doesnt work
I came across this feed with the same question however it is now 2025 and these posts ore from 2021. Does anyone have any info on how to fix this as of 2025? I have seen videos on YouTube on how to fix this that were posted in 2023 and 2024 that say to right click the game<properties<controller<disable steam input.
This however does not work for me even with games the steam says 100% are compatible with my controller. If you have any advice please reply.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
