Missing pictures in my guide
Hello. I created a guide on Doom Eternal (last edited on march 28th) and yesterday find out that some pictures are missing. Everything is fine in google cached version from may 4th. Can someone please check if it is a network problem on my side or not?

Can you see images in "Disable antialiasing" and "DOOMing on a Potato" sections?

I got the same problem with some of my guides. Since yesterday some of the images won't load. Seems to be a server side problem, because when I go to "edit guide contents" and scroll down to "images" the missing images are still listed there.

Thanks for the reply. People in other discussions also face this problem, and judging by the tech support answers, it looks like no one is going to fix that.

Hmmm, that's a shame. I had hoped the problem would (might) remedy itself. But it seems like that's not going to happen. Luckily, I keep a backup of all the pictures I upload for my Steam Guides.

Interestingly though, you can't re-upload the exact same image with the same name. Steam will see it's a duplicate (even though it shows up empty and as 0.00kb when editing the guide). Changing the image slightly does however work.

Anyway, thanks getting back on the topic!

More than a year has passed, and the problem is still relevant :с

Just popping in to say thanks. I made a guide for the game Shadow Burglar 2 months ago and suddenly it is missing some achievement pictures, and reuploading doesn't work even after removing the blank images. I removed 1 letter from the pictures, reuploaded, and it works now.

One of the good things about people stealing your guide. Google your guides title and you will find your guide copied word for word, picture for picture. Grab the pic from there lol

Well, another year has passed, and this error still breaks the guides and ruins them.
When will this bug be fixed?!

I don't have a fix, but I did find a work around.

If you have the image on your computer, you can just change the image slightly (I changed a single pixel in MS Paint), save it, and upload it. Without having to change the guide at all, the picture should show up again.

This seems to be a steam server synchronization issue. I have a couple guides that keep losing their images (one regularly loses 25 images...)

So doing some hunting (after Steam support tried to tell me it was a client issue - despite the fact that affected 3 people I checked with, and any browser or client), I see that today, the fixes I just put in 2 days ago are all gone again.

But I also noticed that the "last Update" timestamp was showing as a week before the date I did my update (it shows as the 19th, when it should be showing the 27th).

So server synchronization seems to be rolling back my fixes at some random time frame, to a random time in the past (a week or so).

Now that I've noticed this aspect, I have created a new support ticket (since they automatically closed the last one - a half hour before I saw the new problems- argh!!!) detailing that my changes got rolled back somehow...

I'd suggest anyone else experiencing this to start adding notes (I use the private dev comments) to insert the time stamp that I make each fix attempt. Creating a log trail...
Maybe it will help steam get off its arse and do something to resolve the issue.

Here's hoping we can get some progress...

I hope so. I've had to resort to having a complete 1-1 backup of all photos and gifs for each guide and have to periodically check to make sure nothing broke.

I e-mailed support to point out the frustration, but all I got was "we'll pass it along".
