How Valve killed the Steam market.
We all know about the scheme with the exchange of our skins for a little more expensive by exchanging them with other players. This scheme worked (and now it works, but it is not convenient at all), but do you know why? Then Valve added a ban to the trade after the exchange (purchase) of any item on Steam. And I know why, this was done so that those who hacked your account could not transfer your balance to their account through the purchase and further exchange of items, so that you have time to restore your account. But that's not even the point, it's just trading, but the 13% commission on the market is already too much, it is impossible to speculate with such a commission, since most of the profit is lost due to the commission. In general, now it is impossible to speculate on the Steam market, then what's the point in all these price charts? I know a lot of people have said this already, but I'm just saying it again. Actually Valve, you killed the market ...

It never was supposed to be a business for users.
Your scheme failed and now you whine?

seems somebody missed the whole part about how you aren't supposed to be trying to speculate with anything on Steam in the ToS

No, I just didn't start doing it, because I realized that it was not profitable. And why first create a live market, and then kill it.

I say it again, I didn’t try to do it, because it’s unprofitable. And again, they make the live market themselves.

If you want to make a profit then go and download a real-world trading app and make real money that way. If you're trying to make a living off of worthless virtual items where you receive platform-locked wallet credit then you're in the wrong business.

The market is working as intended and making Valve EZ money in the process. As soon as you inject real money and convert it into digital credit, you lose unless you intend to buy games with any gains.

Commission is also part of the service - you don't expect to jump into something, use it to its full potential and not expect to give something back..
Steam is a gaming platform , not a stock exchange
Since there is the points market now, i woud be glad to see market disapearing.
All this market is doing is feeding the accounts scamming

So if I go on the market there won't be millions of items posted and millions of transactions occurring? There will? How do you define killed then me wonders. Because an active market place doesn't seemed killed to me.

If Valve killed the market and the market is "unprofitable", how did I make ~$51 selling a few skins and bought an expensive software package during the sale?

Though I would like their 'commission' reduced a tad, since they're just digital items and not fresh purchases.

No worries, folks. You can still speculate on the NYSE or NYMEX.
