Yeah, even with their biggest game in Half Life, they nickel-and-dimed the fans into having to buy it in episodes...which of course led to it being unfinished. Many of the rest of their big hits is taking mods someone else made of their games and selling them themselves (Portal, Team Fortress, Counterstrike, etc) Heck, the entire reason Steam is free in the first place is so they can get away without having to provide any support.
