Are we ever going to see a real SDK code release before (or even after) Source 2?
Not really sure if this is the proper section. SourceSDK in it's current state is just Authoring Tools so I'm guessing that's why this section exists? Anyways, does anyone actually know?

Why are you asking about things that clearly nobody (except Valve itself) knows? Source 2 is not even officially announced, so be patient.

There are some rather big leaks stating the development of Source 2. When Source Filmmaker was released, there was some files in there referring to Source 2 along with new Hammer icons. Shortly after they removed the files with no further comment. Valve also mentioned that they would be releasing no new titles in 2012, and most rumors indicate the production of Half-Life 3 utilizing Source 2.

Just wait for it. Valve will release a new SDK sooner or later... They always did.

Last 'free' SDK dates back to 2007 if I can recall correctly...

That would be the SDK base, not the SDK itself.

Alien Swarm SDK is released in 2010. All game source code is available for free. It's more advanced then Source SDK 2007
