I am on a MacBook and tried to run .dmg file. It keeps saying needs online connection to install (not to update, which I have seen several solutions for). Several have shared a YouTube video with instructions on opening the registry.vdf file in text editor and changed "offline" to 0. My .vdf file is very short and doesn't look like the video and doesn't have the word Offline in it. Please help!

Things I have tired:
I have verified that I am online. I have checked firewall settings (firewall is off), tried 3 different internet connections and verified all were working, I checked for old or broken steam files and deleted anything I found, I restarted computer, I checked the private relay toggle setting (don't have iCloud set up on this computer. I erased all Steam files, cleared the cache, redownloaded the steam app. I made sure automatic state and time settings were on. I did everything my research told me to try and am getting the same error. I am old and don't have any technical skills - please help!
