Disappearing text in Steam client on Mac
For a few months now, I am having trouble that text disappears from contextual windows. For example when I right click for options like stop, reload webpage etc. It also happens with other windows like when I launch About Steam client etc.

See some screens for examples.

Talked with Steam support about this, they proposed completely wiping and re-installing steam. They also told me that Case-sensitive partitions or hard drives are not supported on Steam. But that is not my case.

So nothing helped (except for full restart of Steam that fixes the issue for awhile) and Steam support told me they cannot help me unless there are more people like me. So if you have similar issues, please comment on this thread as well.

My configuration:

Macbook Pro 14" with M1 Pro chip, 16 GB of RAM and MacOS Monterey 12.3.1

make a ticket i don t know
As I written in the post, of course I made a ticket and consulted with Steam support. They told me they cannot help me right now unless this happens to more people.

But I also have this problem. And I know a bunch of people who still have this problem. I will say more, this is a problem not only because we have a macbook on m1. This problem has existed for a long time, and on Windows they already fixed it, about 5 years ago.

Good to know uis. Only restart of Steam helps in your case as well?

Still not fixed :(
I have the same

I found a way, I will try
"Install the Marlett font inside. Go to Library, then Application Support/Steam/Steam.AppBundle/Contents/MacOS, and then open the "resource" folder. You will find the "fonts" folder and then you will open Marlett.tff. Install it and text should be back on."

Holy cow! It's working! For now.
Update. It's better. But text still disappeared after some time…

In a similar thread elsewhere, I found a solution by Bootr that worked for me.
The suggestion was to rebuild the font registration system database, and restart.

In the Terminal app, type the following and restart the Mac:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
atsutil server -shutdown
atsutil server -ping

After I did that, I can see text in my Preferences pop-up window again.

I am getting the same problem on Steam Client (version 1759461205) on macOS (version 26.0.1 (25A362)) a large amount of the text is replaced with a '?'.

However neither of the suggestions seem to work now

1. The Marlett.tff file is not in either of the Library folders
2. atsutils is no longer present in macOS

Is there a solution to this that works with the latest macOs and Client?
