How many Hours/day (on average) do you game?
Hey guys,

I am a bit worried about my video game usage. Apparently, the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends no more than 1 hour per day of video games and 1 hour TV - more than that is referred to as addiction (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/04/080416081631.htm).

I think that they are being a bit strict - I would call 2 hours per day addiction, but definitely not only one hour! On the other hand, who even has time to game for more than 2 hrs in one day - could you imagine, lol!

Anyhow, let me know what you think is the right thing for me to do.
Thanks much!

they are BS-ing you! they are the people you would rather have you go anorexic than allow you to sit in front of a screen for 3 hours!!! They are just so freaking sad of an organization it sounds like!!

4-8 hours on the computer and the rest of the day either going to school, going to work, or sleeping, eating, etc.

That link is for toddlers who are still developing. Not adults. How old are you?

Any reasonable amount is ok for an adult. Frequent rests are reccomended. Exercise for 60 minutes a day (keep heart rate over 90 bpm), eat well and there will be no problems.

actually, internet addiction is defined as spending 6 or more hours a day online doing useless things. as you should be able to tell, 6 hours is significantly more than 1

I try REALLY hard to keep my steam rating below 10. That way I know I haven't spent way too much time playing and not enough time job searching. I wish someone would just hire me and remove the curse of too much free time. Also then I could afford to buy games again.

That could be boredom too. If it becomes something you have to be on and do all the time and every day, that is an addiction. The ammount of time spent would have nothing to do with it. That is just a possible indicator.

An addiction should never be measured by how much you do something but why you do it. For example, playing video games for hours is not an addiction, provided you're still taking care of yourself by eating, sleeping, etc. However, if you're neglecting those areas of your life because you "need" to play video games, you might have an addiction.

Just make sure you still take care of yourself, bud. There's nothing wrong with enjoying games for a couple hours a day.

I spend 8+ hours a day on the computer, though 8 of it is spent at work. I guess I'm addicted to computers?

Thanks AAP!

Just realized this, what are the options exactly? Game a little or game a lot? What kind of stupid question is this?

(Again, it's this My_Family_Is_Starving guy. He makes troll threads for a living.)
