I learned to enjoy RPGs again.
I have played a lot of RPG games over the years but lately I've not been able to complete one all the way through because I get stuck in the perpetual (let me restart) mind set. I was so fixated on the perfect playthrough, the best outcomes, min maxing my character, doing every quest "properly" and all that stuff.

Then I'd restart a dozen plus times whenever my character didn't meet my expectations, only to find that the new character I made also had a flaw or two. I'd recreate characters over and over and end up getting burned out in the the for 20 hours of the story.

My most recent example is Baldur's Gate 3. I have 176 hours on that game, restarted my playthrough more times than I can remember and I still never made it past act 1.

So I decided to change my mindset with RPGs and instead of fixating over all the above forementioned things, I would just create a character that looked and seemed fun, handle quests in whatever way felt fun and natural, not worrying if things go bad or looking up a guide on how to get the best outcome for a particular event etc. I'd just play the damn game and not worry if my playthrough was "bad" or sub optimal or I missed a bunch of content.

Because I can always just do another playthrough and change it up right? This may seem obvious to so many people but I think this "perpetual restarting" with a focus on trying to get the best first playthrough is pretty common.

So yeah, now I'm playing RPGs and just doing what is FUN, not what is best.

If you're only doing 1 run of the game, just plow through it and move on. Trying to min/max is for repeat runs, maybe a higher difficulty.

I don't want to "plow" through it, I still want to enjoy the game and not just complete it for the sake of it. But fixating over the playthrough instead of simply playing it and enjoying it is where I was starting to go wrong.
I like RPG games because I can grind or do things at my own pace. And I really like dressing up my character as well.
I dislike the limits in Fallout it does not inspire me to 'wait until my character uses its precious point to up this thing so i can go back and try the old wreck of a building again'.

Thankfully there is the command console for the pc user.

The First Silent Hill that was realistic in the manual it says 'this guy is not a marine and its doubtful you are too' when it came to shooting.
That is real role playing in my opinion.
