Since family's out (and I include my dogs/cat in that group), the only other cause I would immediately and voluntarily lay my life down for is my students.

I accepted a couple of decades ago the possibility of a mass shooter on campus, and I've already had to confront an armed student once in my career.

I'll die for my kids if I have to. I'd much rather go home to my wife, but yeah, I'd eat a bullet for them.

If everything in my life was tidied and ready for my passing then I would be die for another person to have a part of my body that was vital to them.

To answer the OP, nothing worth much to die for really. Family and home is the mean reason for most people, including myself but dying to stop a shop lifter or some other nonsense is pointless to me.

Throughout modern history so many people have died for such stupid reason, such as chasing a shop lifter stealing pens from a billion dollar company or getting involved in someone else's argument... nah just walk on by, go home and look after your own.
