Having a hard time explaining to my friend why he shouldn’t care about politics

Ever since Trump won the Presidency my friend and I have been arguing about certain things. Particularly current events. My opinion is if you’re living your life, you shouldn’t worry about politics.

I have a somewhat successful life that has allowed me to be comfortable. I think that is the main difference between myself and my friend. He uses his emotional compass to navigate through life and I just find it hard to engage with him anymore. It seems like he’s gone completely mental. He will say things like “you love your daddy Trump” and I’m just sitting back thinking wow we have fully stunted adults acting like children talking about their President that way no matter who it is is just bizarre.

I know this probably will go no where and people who will reply will be snarky. I just wanted to express how blank some of this makes me feel. I will be reading negative comments about Trump and simply just turn it off in my brain because I know that person is suffering. It’s just sad.

He will stop caring eventually once he learns how pointless the majority of it is when trying to talk about it with other people, its rare to find a person who is opposite to you as well who will actually listen to your side of things or your argument as to why you think the way you do and not just become defensive or insulting because of it at least online anyway

there are a lot of genuine reasons to disagree with trump, or to simply not like him as a person, without, "suffering."

I also don't think you should be trying to disincentivize people from being politically active because a democracy does not work without an educated and active population.

it's also not your responsibility to try to help, teach, or correct somebody. it sounds like you need to find a friend that doesn't make your life worse.

don't worry, this problem will solve itself when they rename America to the United States of Israel. they've got the new flag ready to go. and Trump himself has already converted to Judaism - he's a Jew now. Christianity will be outlawed and you all will be forced to kiss the stupida** wall & wear those stupida** things on your heads.

It’s just crazy because I live very close to the guy who tried to assasinate him so voting for him was no question. But that doesn’t change how unhinged everyone has become since January. I am just working and investing. I watch nightly news because I like David Muir, but it seems that the more political the world becomes the more removed I become in a sense.

I just know that I can’t convince someone to see things the way I do. Yes I respect Trump, yes I am loyal to him and his ideologies, because I want a better life. I want a great life. For me. Not for anyone else.

I’d never disrespect a President, I’d never type out an insult or a threat. It just blows my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mind how many stupid people we have in this country who don’t know how to shut their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mouth and be a patriot.

I support Israel and I support the state of Palestine but you have to be a fool to think that if we give up our common interests such as Argentina or Israel we will not be swallowed whole by the radical world who simply exists to ERADICATE our culture.

He should get off the internet and stop hanging around people who consume the stuff he consumes on the internet. If he actually lives in reality, he'll realise that Trump isn't ending his life and he's actually alright. There is no bogeyman. There is no [insert doomsday stuff] and [insert doomsday stuff]. It's a manipulation tactic people have used for decades to terrorise impressionable people into thinking that their life will be over... yet 1, 10, or 60 years down the line these things weren't actually real, just a figment of their imagination sensationalised to the extreme. Lying about the future is probably one of the easiest ways to brainwash the most people.

I am not a fictional character I am an American. I have most likely been on the internet longer than you have and will most likely navigate it better than you ever will based on your moral compass.
