Check out "21st Century Schizoid Man" by King Crimson for some great riffs.

Too many to count. Although my favourite part of any song is from the Slayer song "Praise of Death" where all instruments but the bass go silent. At about 2:00.

No, King Crimson all the way. It's on their first album, In the Court of the Crimson King, released in 1969.

Anything by King Crimson, Led Zep, Focus, Gentle Giant, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Satch, Vai, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Return To Forever, Jeff Beck, Porcupine Tree, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, The Hellecasters, Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, Give Me a Reason by The Corrs has an excellent riff in the middle, Sandman by Metallica, Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Flatt and Scruggs, Acoustic guitar riff on Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill played by Steve Hunter, Taxman, I Feel Fine, oh heck anything by the Beatles! Endless list, yo!

Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden, Jawbreaker (Judas Priest), Do or Die (Testament), I Am the Law (Anthrax) and of course Angel of Death (Slayer)... Just to name a few songs with my favorite riffs. But this is a really difficult question, there's just to much glory in rock and metal.

Yep! :-) I especially love the live version on 'Rock in Rio', where about 200.000 fans are chanting along the riffs - gives me goose bumps every time.
