What is "accessibility" in video games?
I appreciate options for color blind people, deaf and similar, these are all good features that can ensure anyone is able to enjoy the game despite their circumstances.

But lately I've noticed that among them there are straight up cheats like infinite health, magic or whatever, and there's no penalty for using them at all. How is this an accessibility, this is literally a cheat, no? Do you think they belong here?

This is what they teach in college these days, so I am not surprised they are no longer calling these options "cheats" and grouping them with helper options, or accessibility options. College also teaches that it is okay to be socially isolated and your opinions matter more than actual fact.

I guess it all comes down to sensitivity and not calling them "cheats" as to saying people that use these options are "cheats or cheaters" because of their disability/handicap, some people need more help.

Then it gets me to think about the actual people who do use these options to cheat the game so it seems as though this is a very vast and complex notion of speculation. I rather be called a dirty cheat than an angry cripple.

Disabled people shouldn't expect to be able to do everything an able person can do. If they can do normal things, they are not disabled.
It's for people that have an extreme debilitation called "skill issue", also probably a heavy form of learning disability.

You shouldn't mock those poor souls. Gaming is for everyone, even the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Idk if I'm playing devil's advocate here, or what, but I would liken this kind of "accessibility" (infinite lives etc) to those bumpers used in the kiddie lanes at the bowling alley. They exist for a purpose, not there to be abused.

But, idk, I could be wrong. :expression1:

Typical gamer attitude would be to use those bumpers then complain about it while also saying "why should I gimp myself? it shouldn't be there if it wasn't meant to be used!"

I'm an old lady, dude. I don't know what typical gamer attitude would be, so I'll take your word for it. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

This is real accessibility

infinite health, magic or whatever
This will never be accessibility

My problem comes from the lack of restrictions.

I think its fine to use for someone who's never played a game or to have fun breaking it, but when it doesn't affect the score or leaderboard is where I have to raise an eyebrow and question how its fair.

Yes, it is a video game and isn't an Olympic sport, but still, i think it goes against the competitive nature.
As long it`s not multiplayer game I really don`t care what people do or how they get their fun.
Having straight cheats is probably not accessibility.

Crunchyfrog is missing i guess.

Also having a cheat that way - would be an option for everyone to use. So it´s not "unfair". If it´s about any competition it´s usually about highest difficulty anyways.

I fully understand that. You have a fair point. :lunar2019piginablanket:
They should have settings for motion sickness. Standard field of view that goes up to 90° vertical.. and a view model / hands/weapon field of view so that way it the gun/object the person is holding isn't inside of your head

Videogames have always had cheat codes anyway. Nothing wrong with that in single player games.
