Of course the dead drug traffickers wouldn´t smuggle any drugs any more, but others will if the circumstances have a need / demand for it. Also having a death sentence might lead to more brutal criminals.
If You don´t show the people how to do it in another way, like making a living without being a criminal - it has little to no effect.
Except Singapore has some of the lowest crime rates in the world. You can walk down city streets and not see a piece of gum on the pavement, trash on the sidewalk, or graffiti on a wall. Good luck finding a major American or European city you can say that about.
Like: there are many studies about it. Not especially Singapore, but in general. And clean city streets might be a cultural thing - combined with a working city cleaning system - or the super high population density. I wouldn´t throw the filters of my cigarettes on the road or sidewalk either, but instead throw them in the bin - even if nobody would punish me if i would throw them on the road. Perhaps people would occasionally shake their heads though - or ask: "Was that necessary? Look over there. There´s a bin."
And it´s actually a super small country. Like it´s basically only a city, on an Island. Andorra has a lower crime rate, and a bunch of other European countries are not far off - and none would have the death sentence or cane people.
See the value of working for each other and may become a positive economic force.
This is the kind of leftist view bringing down western societies.
