Value used to mean something until Nixon ended the gold standard in the 70's
People today try to keep alive the story that value means something

Money today isn't scarce. Fiat is infinite

You can't steal something that isn't scarce

That is like accusing people of stealing oxygen.

I remember hearing it was jsut plain unsustainable somewhere, that gold couldnt be gotten at the rate of economic growth not only predicted but which was proven to be happening. It would have likely cascated into mass deflation which is jsut as bad as inflation in results(though easier to clean up in fiat currency.) Sorry I can dig up the details on that
