i will never understand people who buy monitors above 1080p
1. you need to upgrade your graphics cards much more often. 2. most games do not run that res and for sure older ones so good luck with that if a modder does not exist for that game. 3 desk space. what i mean? well i put my pc on my desk to limit the amout of dust that goes inside. so on paper you are limiting your desk space which makes you spend even more money on a good long desk EVEN if you have the room for it your actual room can get smaller too. over all really bad.

conslussion, i think 4k and high res montiors are cool if you only buy new and high gen games that can support them but over all 1080p is used so much more common in older/indie and emullator titles. ray tracing is cool for the current gen but you you also want to run 4k or higher res say good by cause their is no way anything above 1080p can support ray trace since it is so so demanding. you think maybe some extra pixels won't cost a lot but just look at people who have their dashbourd full of shortcuts where their pc runs like windows 98 with a full drive xd.

i will always run 1080p becomes older games have more soul and always are more amazing, htz does not matter since i use rivatuner to control the fps so if a game is 30-60 or 144hz cap i can just limit it easy.

but ya cool you got a 5090 with a oddssy or whatever but what is the point if you can only play a very select few of games. even now older games are having problems with newer gpus vram amounts and speeds so idk anymore tbh.

just something i wanted to talk about tbh

The reality is, at normal desktop distances, you're not going to see greater fidelity than you get with a 24" 1080p monitor. The pixel density just isn't there and you can prove it by creating a 1080p image in which every other pixel is a different color, then viewing that image full screen and seeing that you cannot see individual pixels, it all blends together into a singular color.

However, once you go above 24", you will start to notice those differences at a rate of increasing returns. From 24-32 inches at normal desktop distances, you would need 1440p.
1. That is to be expected and accepted.
2. Future-proofing your setup is never a bad idea.
3. Monitors can be screwed into a wall. My second television is 42" and currently screwed into my wall, via the studs. Zero waste of space.

Of course you won't. If you're stuck with 90s games and indie, you don't need anything more than that.
my current pc, built it about 8 or so years ago.

in general... and to the topic.

(secondary) 50in philips 4k native 144hz tv

run main screen at 120hz and secondary at 60hz, cap games at 120fps.

tv's were on sale and i wanted to replace the old ones, i had been repairing myself, to keep them going.

i dont have a desk and my pc case wouldnt fit on one, it sits on the floor on a wooden base (about 4in tall), from an old wooden cased tube television, the tv's are mounted on the wall (T/B).

and im chillin in a lazy boy (never liked being hunched over a desk, with my nose pressed against a tiny screen), with the keyboard in lap and mouse on the arm of the chair (not including 2 different controllers for different games).

i play retro, indies and many newer games.

anywho, have fun and a nice day

I want an AI monitor / AI program that takes ancient games and gives them a graphical overhaul as you play.

Darklands, put that ona modern monitor as big as they are and it looks horrible.
BUT with the magic of AI it might once more be a pretty grim edgy medieval survival horror.
