Etsy has angered me
Just lost my bank account this last week, or it’s been gone just long enough for me to finally notice now that I actually have the opportunity. No biggie, I don’t use it anyway, but I had an overdraft in it, and they sent it to claims, and they shut my account down. Okay, no big deal. Now you’re probably wondering what the hell this has to do with Etsy?

If you sell on Etsy, you may know that you need to attach your bank account to it. So when you get paid, it gets deposited into your bank account, which is really cool. But because of this, I can no longer use my bank and Etsy together. I check my email, and it says, "Hey, you need to go pay this $1.40 that you owe us," and I said, "Okie dokie." This doesn't need a bank account, just a new debit which is fine as I can give it my CashApp.

Well, I go to pay it, and then I see that my account numbers are still under the bank account settings — the last four digits. So I think to myself, I should change this since I no longer have that bank account. As I go in to try to remove it, it tells me that to remove it, I must have the account number. I’m like, are you serious? There is no "remove this" or "delete this" or anything like that.

So I messaged Etsy, because they have a side chat to message a rep. They tell me that to remove my old banking information, I have to have the account information to remove the account information. And then if I want to add new information, I can add new information.

Then they said that if I want to remove my account information, I have to create an entirely new shop. They don’t have a functionality to remove any of it. That is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Literally everything I have ever seen where you sell anything, all it asks you for is your debit card information. Even then, if it were to ask you this, all it says is that it’s going to remove it if it’s not in use or something like that. It’s usually pretty simple.

So, apparently, Etsy’s method of removing your account information is basically saying, "I’m going to delete everything that I worked my ass off for and make it all brand new." That is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. As far as I’m aware, other sellers don’t make you do this.

The customer representative was so overly useless when I talked to them. I even told the person, "You’re about as useful as a white crayon on a white piece of paper," and they told me to act professional. I said, "Or else what?" And then she just ended the chat. I thought that was funny.

So I have to wonder if on Monday, when I call up my old bank, they’ll give me the account information, or if I will have to go in person to get it. I don’t even know if they’re going to have it. It’s going to piss me off if Etsy is going to make me make a new shop. And if this is true, I’m going to be very, very mad. I’m probably going to end up recreating my store on Square. No, not SquareSpace — Square, as in the tap-to-pay at booths. I have one from when I was selling Waffle House ties between Waffle Houses, and it helped me collect data for it. I might even just switch to Clover while I’m at it. I don’t know yet.

But I can tell you I am sorely pissed off tonight about it.

Edit - Jut cleaned up cause I originally did this on my phone.

update 11/03/25
Called up my bank, got them on the phone, lady gave me my old account info. So I still have my etsy. I switched it to my square to use. If you wanna see what all I sell its on my steam profile. I can't link it without this being technically an ad or promo for my etsy.

Still annoyed at Etsy tho

Ha
Sounds like a great service
Uh, tell the bank there's incoming money to cover the charge so they shouldn't close it.
Check for old bank statements that were mailed to you or the correspondence you get when you created your account. An email or your book of starter checks might also have that information.
Can there just be a nice simple trading place on Earth!?

There's not, my account is completely closed but my lawyer friend told me that legally they should still have my account info so I may be able to get it back tomorrow

I'm hoping that I can figure out how to set up my Square store better cause honestly don't charge you for anything on their site unless you go premium. Which is fine cause it's nothing extreme that I need right now. Oh and they don't answer emails, they don't answer twitter, they have NPC style people who answer their side chat and are as useless as as a glass of water to a pool.
