tldr: repairing a small pinhole leak in a run of piping. nope. big sploosh.

abbridged ver:

found a run of copper hot water recirculation pipe that was springing a small tiny leak. without thinking, i just isolated it, cut the faulty fitting, pressed in a new one, called it a day.

3 days later... another leak. then another and another.

i pulled the old peice out of the garbage pail - it was so paper thin i crushed the pipe between my fingers.

had to shut down water to the building, and re-pipe the entire run up there. the recirculation pump had such velocity, and since it was running 24/7 it put the equivalent of about 60+ years of wear and tear on that thin copper pipe in about 12 years, and wore it completely out.

a new pump was fitted with a lower head velocity, and a staging timer was set to only run for the busy business hours during the work day, and return to passive flow at night. should last a lot longer as well since the run was re-designed and simplified with less turns in the pipes.

but yea, 'quick fix' turned into 3 day workout real quick, lol.

if i think somethings gonna be easy it doesn't normally turn out to be difficult, just tedious most of the time

for a video game comparison: achievements like "defeat 10000 enemies" or "fill the encyclopedia". things that require little intelligence or skill, but a lot of perseverance
