This, I recommend pdfbuster
Use cpdf. Several lossless transforms, optimization, extracts, etc.

If someone's PDF is made like trash, it's gonna break with any tool used.
They're editable, but they were always meant to be a finalized file for print production.

The rigidity of the file is purposeful: it prevents incidental changes or shifts when transferred between systems using established PDF standards. That allows the printed output to reproduce a digital proof faithfully and predictably.

... in theory, anyway. In reality, most printers can barely use their own computers just like every other company.

Lord, don't I know it...

Some of the vendors I have to work with...
you can edit them, you just need to print them out first. they're very eco-friendly files, as you can see.
It’s good for keeping formatting when sending something to someone who uses a different programme (for example a Microsoft Word document to Apple Pages)
