Isn't it crazy how dynamic and fluid history / geopolitics can be?
I've been on a history binge recently and was researching about the UK.

So basically in 1066 the King of England was this guy named Æthelstan. Then his country was invaded by William the Conqueror, who himself was Duke of Normandy, which was itself a vassal of France.

So the now King of England is Charles III, who is a direct descendant of William, the man who invaded the country and took it over by force. And in a strange twist of Irony, the royal family is considered the pinnacle of what it means to be British. It's hard to imagine a nations people not only accepting an invader, but allowing them, willingly, to stay in royalty for centuries after the fact. I guess over time people just stopped caring and because the blood lines mixed, people just saw them as British anyway.

Then fast forward to 1944 when the UK stormed the beaches of Normandy, the very place the invading King was from all those years ago. But not in aggression, but in an act of defence and support.

It's like imagine China right now wants to absorb Taiwan as part of China, they haven't made a move yet but the intention is obviously well known. At some point in the future, China invades Taiwan, replaces the leadership and over time Taiwan is just a province of China.

Then 100 years later, China grants Taiwan independence officially, but the General Secretary of Taiwan is some distant descendant of Xi Jinping that is accepted by the Taiwanese people. Then in another 500 years time, Taiwan is invaded by some other country and China storms the shores of Taiwan to defend their independence.

It's so bizarre but I love how dynamic and fluid history can be. What seems impossible now, could totally be realistic in the distant future.

An extreme example would be imagine Israel gets invaded by Syria and Iran comes to the defence of Israel lol.

Two of the worst things about dying is not knowing how geopolitics are going to play out and what technology will be like 😭 I want to live for the next 1000 years 😭

I suspect a good deal of history is basically made up. One could loosely call it machine generated, not unlike dwarf fortress. Most of the historical narratives depend on one or two alleged primary sources. A massive amount of history stems from figures like Josephus alone. Numerically it seems like a bunch of math and geometry jokes.

There are almost certainly parts of history that are documented which may not have happened, but I think for the most part, most well documented history is true to some degree.
Somehow we are living if Germany actually won ww2. Crazy times indeed...
Two corrections:
  • The King defending England in 1066 was Harold Godwinson. He succeeded Edward the Confessor when Edward died w/o heir.
  • Æthelstan was the King that unified England in the late early 900s

Oh ok thanks for that correction.
The North Sea Empire will rise again. Or House Stuart reclaims the throne from the usurpers. Whichever comes first.

Fun fact, the Song of Ice and Fire series is is directly inspired by the Henriad Cycle, chronicling the rise and fall of the Plantagenet dynasty and the War of the Roses.

It's crazy how the Metal Gear saga is only slightly less crazy than the real life ♥♥♥♥ that went down throughout the cold war. Not least of which is the USA almost never being the good guys.
