Does the gaming community make you females/transfem uncomfortable?
To the Steam Team,

I need to call your attention to a serious problem on your platform. What was once a welcoming space for gamers has, for many of us, devolved into a hostile environment. Specifically, women and trans women are facing an onslaught of targeted harassment and objectification.

The screenshot sections, in particular, are overrun with explicit and degrading images. It's a shocking and frankly infuriating display of disrespect. It feels like the progress we've made in promoting allyship and respect has been completely reversed, replaced by a culture of bullying where abusers face no consequences.

The harassment isn't subtle; it's right out in the open. We can't even have a serious conversation without being spammed with childish "jester emojis" meant to silence and mock us. This toxic behavior is also seeping into the games themselves. It's truly disappointing to see major games like Metal Gear Solid Delta perpetuate objectifying themes.

My question is this: Do you actively moderate your platform? It feels as though this behavior is being allowed to fester without any intervention. Please, let us know what you are doing to protect your users and put an end to this widespread harassment.

u know what, i actually agree with this. I have been seeing an uptick and shift in gamer behavior. actually, i am studying pscyhology so this is very intruiging to me. its especially interesting the reach USA poltics has on the world because as we all know a lot of people on steam are foreigner but they are all changing to adjust to usa politics.

i want you to know that I completely agree with you. if you come up with a petition or anything i will be happy to support you and i want you know i am your ally

May I ask what brought you here today? Do you perhaps know the OP?

For that matter, OP's post seems to be a first in OT as well. But moderators have been known to dump irrelevant posts here from time to time.

No, it has never made me uncomfortable. My tolerance towards what some might deem offensive is higher than most though.

I've also never understood why sexualising fictional characters was concerning to people either.

Don't care how someone looks, dresses or talks as long as it doesn't interfere with my private space.

I'd rather ride a sub full of drag queens chatting in low voices instead of the one riled-up suit who is arguing on his mobile for the whole wagon to hear.

Cant even picking Crystal Maiden in Dota 2 without some one "giving it a try".

I would be glad if they stop confusing me with there common victim and go harass some real transgender or female... Thanks!

I stopped being an ally the second time I was told what you just said.

Fortunately, my best friend and stepson are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.

And they are not nearly as easily offended as the "assembled community".

You've been here 2 years op so respectively what would you possibly know about how things have been here.
I don't know how long you've been gaming but its always been predominantly male and will take a few decades if at all before we see a more balanced set of figures like say we do in populations.
As for harassment as you put it please , anyone regardless of gender can and does get that on any gaming platform for a whole host of reasons. So stop acting like it happens to only a couple factions.
A hole is a hole, not half a hole so deal with the problem as a whole if you want people to take it seriously otherwise your only end up appeasing a small percentage usually built entirely from the affected.
