I have 61 friends on my friends list. More or less I do talk or interact with most of them regularly, even if it's only brief convo. But I don't talk to them on Steam because the vast majority of them are people I know from outside Steam, they are either friends or friends of friends and most of them are in group chat(s) outside of Steam that I'm part of.

The rest are mainly people from the forums or the occasional game who have added me, I don't really talk to them most of them much on Steam but those who are on the forums I still interact with when they pop up here.

I say strangers because there's no way you know or talk to that many people.

Most of them only collect friends for the free thumbs up for their screenshots/artwork.

They drown out the screenshot/artworks pages with garbage because people just thumbs up anything that gets posted. That's why you see pictures of blurry nothing with 50+ ratings and a bunch of emoji spam in their comments when you sort by top rated.

I've used to chat with about six of them regularly, not including those I know IRL.
But, ever since we've parted ways IRL, even those are sort of a mystery and all I've got are the past memories with them.. As well as the photobooks with their younger-selves.

Then, as I started reading novels and all that, I ran into some more and added some more over the years with whom I chatted a lot back then, but that has eventually stopped aswell as.. There was the lack of interest, real life making us all busy, and.. Yeah, it's just a matter of priorities.
We have never seen each other IRL, nor will we ever meet each other IRL because we live regions apart and the travelling would be far from cheap, along with other difficulties that it'd subject the traveller to.

And, then there are the active kinds - Typically the recently added ones, otherwise those with whom I may interact in other ways and not with the chat feature.
Many of us have gotten used to instead use screenshots' comments for feedbacks, activity statuses.. You do name it, and so the chatting feature's got nothing much to offer if we get that bit of interaction in features like those.

All of those combined, I do regularly chat with about.. Seven out of twenty-three individuals in the friend list.
Individuals, because some are acquaintances while some are friends.
