There's a theory that the second one is because that story is actually a true event in a parallel dimension/alternate reality. The author had a subconscious mental link to that reality which gave them the insight to make the story, and you find it acceptable because your brain is also able to tap in to that alternate reality. The first story that you couldn't accept was just a flat out made up thing by the author, no alternate reality, which is why you didn't accept it.
It's called "The Literary Multiverse Theory" or something like that.
