Anthrophobia? Not exactly. I'm just socially awkward and introverted, and direct eye contact makes me feel uneasy. Other insecurities include the standard set: the fear of being rejected, of appearing ridiculous, of saying something that could be misinterpreted, or of hurting someone's feelings. I often have a fear of being a burden to those I admire, so I prefer to keep my distance.

This was late at night when I was getting gas for my car. A hobo asked me for a coffee and I said no. He grabbed my arm in a forceful manner (and yes, it did hurt) then I unlatched the cap from my pepper spray and sprayed him. I pulled away to the gas station and screamed for help. The police did arrive but the hobo was never found.
