Tengu are supernatural creatures with both human and bird-like features, their distinguishing features being a beak or a very long nose, a fierce-looking red face, сlawed hands and feet and raven wings. They are typically depicted wearing Buddhist monastic robes. They are often compared to demons for their mischievous and occasionally malevolent nature, but they can also be skilled warriors and wise mentors. They serve as protective spirits of the mountains and forests. Tengu were also associated with storms and strong winds, which they could summon using their magical feather fans. Тengu were known for abducting people, causing natural disasters, teaching martial arts, and punishing arrogance. They particularly targeted the arrogant and corrupt, especially those who displayed excessive pride, by tricking them and publicly humiliating them.
In the anime and manga series Demon Slayer, Sakonji Urokodaki wears a tengu mask which aligns with his role as a reclusive but highly skilled mentor :brickdevil:
