Anyone have a beard?
So, I've been growing out my beard for nearly a month. Its getting thick which I am surprised given that I'm 51, and GenX. My hair is also thick for my age. No hair loss yet. lol

But anyway, I've noticed a few things about the reactions I've been getting from people. Both old and young. I work customer service part time and come across a lot of people.

I've read that for the older people, boomers and people older that they perceive strangers with beards as being untrustworthy, unkempt and they equal having a beard with being homeless. For the younger gen not really. I guess its why i'll notice young men with beards often. Its also why its perfectly acceptable to see young people, both men and women with tattoos. Sleeves even. At even a very young age. 18 year olds with full sleeves. While anyone over 40 with not much ink at all. Over 60 you won't find many folk with tattoos.

This one is kinda interesting. So when I work with an older lady. A boomer, or older. I'll get called sir often. The same with a guy my age who has a TON of gray hair, or little to no hair. Or a guy who is older but clean shaved. I'll get the sirs. But with the younger crowd. Not that often, although i'm a 2-3 decades older than they are. Its probably: Older people are more formal and will address people they perceive as more mature with sir, and younger people are just not that formal. I get that beards tend to make men look older. And I do have the salt and pepper look. It hasn't gone full grey yet. Anyway, just a casual notice.

Its very interesting...

yes very manly beard that has small manly men inside mining coal uwu
Im 40 with half white beard. I keep mine short now, dont like the itch or my hairs going into my nose when I eat food. I use to have them big old long nasty beard. Then food and sauce kept getting stuck in it and it would stink. And it would get stuck in my plate carrier or my vest, or my other gear, can't use gasmask well. So due to many problematic issues I had with a long beard, I now choose to keep it short. I get the sir from all ages might be due to the work I do and my uniform but any name is fine what im called, I dont take offense to racial names or funny names.
I try to keep my face as clean-shaven as I can, my nervous system is broken so hasin’ hair on my face causes meh irritation and pain. :winter2019saddog:

Me personally beards are alright. Sometimes it scratches me when I go in for a kiss. It’s even worst when it’s a stubble and it feels like sandpaper.

You’re old enough to be my dad. Wow.
Sometimes I grow it to 5mm-10mm.

Usually I shave it to 3mm as it's tidier while having some facial hair there.

I once grew a very long thick beard but it's a lot of maintenance.

Have had a beard off and on for several years now.

I usually only shaved it in preparation to visit close elderly friends who were like third grandparents to me.

I would agree that due to the societal norms when they were raised, as you mentioned, having a beard could give the wrong impression; thus I would shave before visiting out of respect for I never knew if I would ever get the chance to see them again.

I have noticed a few odd things about it however.

After I shave it really doesn't take very long for it grow back in fully, but once it has it tends to slow down greatly almost as if it has stopped growing at all.

It is normally pretty soft rather than scratchy.

The spots where it has grown gray to grayish white as well as salt and pepperish, as you say, are on the exact same locations on either side of my face in this very strange symmetry.

Dunno why just odd to me I suppose.

Do these oddities happen to anyone else's beards?

Anyway I would tend to agree with you on most of the perspectives you shared. Interesting thoughts thank you for sharing.
