Probably just bots. Lots of them.
Progress marches on, I guess.
I can't imagine the complex version. Holy hieroglyphs, Batman!
But I don't think it's China, or rather all China.
I do remember a Taiwan number 1 joke I made years back and every time someone got upset I moved China at a lower and lower ranking got massive replies (in case you are wondering Chine was move to the #70 or #80 by the end of the joke and the thread eventually got deleted)
The thing is 33.5% isn't just the USA, it's the entire english speaking world and Steam is the goto digital store for game purchases.
33.7% for China is surprising to me because yeah, China has around a billion people but as far as I understood Chinese usually prefer domestic storefronts through their tech sector or mobile style games, and steam is in a quasi legal state in China where it technically isn't approved and can get you in trouble if you buy a game that isn't legal in China, but it isn't outright banned and treated as a threat like Google, Facebook, or Twitter which have US military ties.
It seemed a bit surprising that they outnumber every English speaker for a service that is just kinda "meh" in popularity over there.
Then again, they do have a lot of people....

I have no clue what the difference between the simplified and traditional versions are.
I'm guessing that data only applies to the original Steam, which makes it kind of crazy it's so neck and neck
Oh right, I forgot about the millions of bots. Those Chinese bots are everywhere
