I think it is as people find another like minded people then reality doesn’t match then they lash all of it out on others which lead to targeted harrasment

For example, I see a series where it got carried by a work written by different author later. The fanbase who likes the source material felt jealous that this writer outdid their precious work so they found way to downplay and twist the entire thing that work isn’t canon while it is a part of franchise. Not sure what happended that make the younger generation listened to this stupid take regurgitates by same goons. The reality is the majority likes the writing of that work than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ original source thus that’s why it is more popular. I remember how most people did comparisons and told what both styles were and they seems to like the work written by other writer.

Im not sure they really exist, other than mostly far right/alt right chat rooms etc.

4chan is probably the worst example, anyone can say what they want anonymously with little to no moderation. A good example of a echo chamber would be most of Reddit with their power hungry mods and voting system,

any system is open to abuse but isn't the norm over there.

i disagree, any disenting voice is either banned or downvoted show it is not shown. Personally i dont like 4chan but it offer way more free speach than Reddit could ever dream of

Not really. Echo chambers are created when people get blocked, and people get blocked when they are rude or obnoxious. If people were polite, they wouldn't get blocked and then the echo chamber wouldn't exist.

And Steam with their leftist leaning moderation. Although on steam you're not allowed to criticize gender ideology as the supporters has mentioned. With that being said, it can be called an echo chamber.

An echo chamber means is that only one side is allowed to express their views while the other side gets banned. Steam classify just that.

in forums I manage im strict with hate speech/bigotry etc and will perma ban those who are there to deliberately cause dissent.

We still have lots of folk who oppose my beliefs and values posting and it works, mostly, just fine.

good moderation is key imho. Mistakes do happen on occasion but thats not the norm.

Trolls waste *everyones* time and time is all we have.

You are right, echo chambers will become extinct, they can't reproduce, like bananas, enjoy bananas while you can cause they might be gone in our lifetime.

Wrong, echo chamber thrives on left leaning websites such as steam.

Websites with echo chamber: Reddit, Bluesky, Steam, GameFAQs. Non-echo chamber websites are Facebook, Meta apps and websites, Twitter X, Instagram and Telegram.
