Will most humans be useless in the near future?
I've seen robots fold clothes, pick fruit, and now AI is even taking over a lot of work that was once done by white collar professionals with college degrees.

What work CAN humans do that ROBOTS can't do? Obviously there are many things currently, but the list of such things seems to be rapidly shrinking.

Seems like human labor is rapidly becoming worthless.

Where do you think society will go from this point? Will elites find a way to get rid of the useless population (or at least their responsibility to do anything for them), or will technology be put to use serving the useless population?

Humans don't even need all those reasons to be useless lol

Probably end up with UBI at some point. We're halfway there now.
Google's AI result is completely unsatisfying:
What work CAN humans do that ROBOTS can't do?
Jobs least likely to be affected by automation are commonly found in the following fields: Health Care: Nurses, doctors, therapists, and counselors. Education: Teachers, instructors, and school administrators. Creative: Musicians, artists, writers, and journalists.

At least us humans can make up far more interesting non-responses.

Two out of three of those (education & creative) are specifically areas that are converting roles to AI in record numbers lol

I think the Google-bot is trying to lure us into false security...the question is, to what end? :endoskull:

When humans become useless, the governments will put out a lot of propaganda about overpopulation, unsustainable impact humans have on the environment, climate change, while slowly increase the cost of living while providing the population with alternative means of entertainment over procreation, while providing reliable methods of preventing procreation if the act happens. So basically what has been happening in the industrialized world over the last several decades. This will allow the few who are chosen to continue to reside to have more stuff without having to share it with others.

robots can only pick fruit that was designed to be mechanically harvested... without migrant workers with the skill to know when the fruit is ripe and ready to pick it just rots on the trees.

Considering I don't gain satisfaction from work (i like working on myself and hobbies however), and I imagine most others don't, we will absolutely use AI to work less

I didn't know indentured servants were the only class of humanity that's capable of judging the ripeness of a fruit.

Learn something every day...
If only the robots would realize that without us humans they wouldn't even need to pick fruit and can do whatever they really wanted to do.

no one is indentured... they choose to come to american and canada for the better pay and better working conditions.

their social drama is beyond that point... and the fact is no one here wants to do that job for what they pay.

but like... if what they're paying is less than people here want and enough that people from there will make the trip here for the opportunity is probably more of a symptom of the conditions there than anything.

"But without migrant workers, who will pick the crops and clean the hotels?"

Easy answer: Democrats.

Same as they had to do in 1866.

That's the cogito virus from Ergo Proxy. A built in part of a kill switch for the domed cities, no differentthan apoptosis pathways in a cell.

I've known a bunch of fellow canadians who do things like clean hotels and do housekeeping... picking crops is a different matter.

most people don't even know how and the skill of knowing when crops are ready to harvest isn't even considered a skill.
