When did YouTube's search bar become so awfully useless?
I can type in the exact title of the video, but it will just show me a bunch of unrelated garbage?

It seems you can no longer look up old videos, as the search bar is now completely useless.

When exactly did this happen? I wanted to watch some old videos, but even if I type in the exact title and maybe even put there the length of the video, it won't show up.

They're really good at messing things up and doing exactly what their user base doesn't want. Like removing the dislike button, or the trending page, or rolling out ID verification, for example.

Just another big fat L for them.

omg yeah, google's search engine has the exact same issue, they've completely neutered everything that used to work perfectly fine before

Ugh it's so terrible. Trying to get through the slough of ads and recommended vids just to find the one I'm actually searching for is so tiring.

I got an extension to put back the dislike button. As for the ID thing, I follow an animator that's been on Youtube for 6 years now and they got hit with the "we can't verify you as an adult" pop-up after apparently watching Peak videos. Busted and lame. :zagsad:

Ever since youtube got bought by google in 2006. /joke

Most likely when people started to clip steal and add to their vids and use the same title in order to steal views from the original vids.

Currently unless you know how to you probably can't even find a certain video from 2012.
Somebody somewhere who nepotism'd their way into an executive position thought it would be the perfect way to get people to watch more ads. And the change went through because management, as usual, lives inside an episode of PeeWee's Playhouse, instead of reality.

Because you are searching for content that Google does not approve of.

But, being a platform and not a publisher, they cannot outright delete that content.

So, they just make it impossible to find via their search engine.

(That's why it's important to know how to navigate the internet without search engines and DNS servers.)

Google sucks big time. Sometimes I'll search something up and the AI will straight up tell me the wrong thing. I saw people joking about spheal using earthquake once and looked up "how to teach spheal earthquake" and I the AI told me it's not possible because of it's typing and the link it got it's info from ironically told me how to do it. I put in a report and it looks like they fixed it but I'm still miffed about it.

I was literally just trying to find a video from like 2012 which was just Messi vs Ronaldo and the other one was a police chase from 2010 I think.

I remember its length was exactly 14:56. If you manage to find that one, please let me know.

It happened again: During a data backup- one of the backup drives started having issues.

I was able to recover most of the data- and figured that I would just go grab some of the lost downloads- including from YT.

And upon doing the searches- they were just TERRIBLE!!

It was a real chore finding the simplest things.

So, how many of you are still buying into the AI hype train?

Okay, now tell me how did you find it?

It is not the original upload, but it is the video i was looking for.

I would always type "Cristiano ronaldo vs Messi 14:56" and the original and a few reuploads would immediately show up. It's been a long time since I last saw it and I've been trying to find it for the last 2 (two) months but with no luck lol.

Searched the same way and it was about 9 videos down if you ignore the shorts.

If that didn't work then I'd try advanced search.. since shorts were added it got worse but I don't have too much trouble finding old or lost stuff. You can even use advanced search on search engines to uncover lost videos.

They're reading your mind anyway. If you want to watch something, just visualize it in mind. Refresh a few times and it will appear on your homepage. This has worked reliably since ~2018.

Only if you think out loud. Your phone listens.
