Delaying because another game is coming out
This whole marketing trend has really pissed me off, I don't really know why I care so much, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way. I know that shifting around release dates to avoid clashing with other big releases has always been a thing behind the scenes, but it feels like whenever something hyped is coming out, people can just start pretending they now have to delay their stuff, and get a bunch of clickbait articles and free marketing for their completely unrelated project, that likely was never coming out that time anyways.
Even if it was coming out, to use an example, Little witch in the woods is the one everyone is talking about now - for a 2 week delay. Imagine getting a ♥♥♥♥ ton of free marketing and publicity, and only needing to delay 2 weeks for it. It isn't an annoyance that silksong release is stepping on them, they are using the silksong release as a publicity stunt, while pretending it is a negative thing, and now we will likely have to deal with this marketing stunt every time anything hyped comes out.

Is it really that big of a deal? Silksong has been hyped up for literally years (people weren't even sure it was ever gonna come out), I really can't blame any indie devs from wanting to both delay their launches and also generating some hype for their own product in the process. I don't think it's actually going to happen as often as you seem to be implying, Silksong is kind of a special case.
I don't think it's done as a way to get publicity.

They have to announce to people following the game somehow. It's only inevitable to be picked up by outlets and reported on.

I don't know what "that" big of a deal means, it's definitely big enough to make a forum post complaining about it if that is what you are asking, though that is of course a low bar. I suppose we can wait and see how often it starts happening, but typically once a marketing stunt works, it is repeated, and I see absolutely no reason why I, if I ran a game studio, wouldn't try and make my release date coincide with something like elder scrolls 6, JUST so that I could delay it and complain about delaying it.

Maybe it wasn't originally, but once people see it gets publicity, it will absolutely be done just for that reason, people will schedule releases around the same time as other big names just so they can delay it.

You had to say "a game" instead of naming the game for a reason, this is nonsense. Edit: I mean nonsense from devolvers side btw, not towards you.

The fact that the game being delayed is more noteworthy than literally anything about the game itself is insane. This is also true of some named games that have been delayed, but we aint gotta go there. Them being one of your favorite publisher is fair, I really like a lot of their games as well, but what they are doing with that delay ♥♥♥♥ is still nonsense.
