The story of Augustin Trébuchon
Augustin Trébuchon was a French soldier. He lived in a small village and worked as a shepherd before the war. When Germany invaded France in 1914, he joined the army.

He served mostly as a runner, carrying messages from one unit to another. On November 11, 1918, just minutes before the armistice that ended fighting, he was ordered to deliver a note telling soldiers that soup would be served after the ceasefire. On his way, he was shot and killed.

He was the last French soldier to die in the war, only a few minutes before peace. His story was almost hidden, because for years the French army did not like to admit that men were sent to fight right before the armistice.
