Find little things in your daily life that you can look forward to.
Remember that it will become routine and then it won't be so bad.
I have existential dread for the mortality of my aging family members who are thankfully...loving, and i know its inevitable, but i dont want to lose them, and i dont know how I'll handle life without them.
I don't handle grief well
You could always give you parents a call if you get really sad about missing them. Some of my friends in school would call their parents all the time, even a few times per week.
Things will get easier, it just takes some time to adjust to things.
that really sucks, in a nice comfortable dorm being able to tap away your sadness.
When I went away I was screamed at, drilled, occasionally assaulted and I came out of it knowing how to strip an assault rifle, jump on booby trapped bodies and that Sergeants seem to like it when you want to punch them in the face.

How to fix feeling blue?
Write fiction, write reports on something, do course work.
Keep occupied, your in a new part of your life it is a transition to embrace.
Meet more people, do more sport.
Date, you don't have to score but just dating and hanging out is fun too.
Obviously your priority is to apply yourself to the work.
The change will pass and when you go back and see people you will enjoy it and may be thinking 'can't wait to go back to college' .
Get used to it. When you graduate from college your career will likely take you far from home as well. It's much easier to deal with if you're married or have a boyfriend/girlfriend.
