Do people think trolling is funny?

Blatant trolling is neither funny nor worthwhile. What do these plebs get out of it?

Are they just short in the IQ department or do they get some sort of pleasure?

Yes, but only if everyone including the target is in on the joke.
To just start trolling strangers however is evil and anyone should be able to report them for abuse.

I'm clearly missing the point of suggesting some trolling is 'acceptable' in some way.

And nothing will happen in that case. Hell, I reported one user over 500 times, the user only banned once for 24hrs. Steam has a lot more work to do to handle this situation.

At the same time, trolling on facebook would get you "account suspended" within 15 mins. That is the moderation I would like to see here.

People’s responses can be funny. If people get genuinely upset over words on a screen, then yeah that’s pretty funny.
