What do you think about puzzles in horror games?

I don't mind them as long as there's no timer
Makes sense because mystery creates a foundation for horror and puzzles are mysteries.
Asking me to think when I'm trying to relax is the scariest thing you can make me do.

It can be a nice way to break tension or create tension, depending on how its done and if it's done right.
I love them. They go hand in hand imo : either a relaxing intellectual exercise after a stressful segment, or something to amp up the tension even more during a chase.
they're a vehicle to get you to explore creepy environments and run into monsters

I don't like puzzles, but I really can't think of a good alternative to them in their purpose, the player needs some reason to explore environments, beyond just running forwards and dodging monsters
