Smartphone (highend) VS SteamDeck?
Why get a SteamDeck when you can just stream all your steam games to a smartphone? Is there any benefit to the SteamDeck other than a built in controller? At least you'll have access to the droid market apps, so it's like a double win.

Streaming doesn't work when you don't have wifi on your phone. If you are using data, it will chew up a ton of it. You also still need a primary gaming pc to stream from.
Steam Deck is a x86-64, which every gaming PC in the past 20 years has been. To run a PC game on a smart phone requires either x86 emulation that would struggle to run even stuff from 2006 on a phone, or for the entire game to be ported to different hardware, which most aren't going to do.

Most people I know with a Steam Deck use it to replace their gaming PC at home. A phone alone won't do that.

This would be home only use with WIFI. I wouldn't dare take it out in the unknown jungle. Too risky.

I don't have a Steam Deck, but aren't there way of playing old DOS games through apps on the android store? And I would mostly just use it for streaming Steam games.

Well battery life on the Steam deck should be built to be way more durable than a regular phone battery. Then there's the planned obsolence in regards to phones updates, meanwhile the Steam Deck will still be updated for as long Steam exists (well as far Gaben is alive). :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

Won't there ever be a Steam Deck 2?
I'd not choose a smartphone and would opt for the Steamdeck. My preference would be an ROG Ally though if I could afford to purchase one.

Ahh yes, I've forgotten about those units. I'll have to check those out again. Thank you for reminding me. :)

Dunno being honest, hopefully yes there will be a Steam Deck 2 and it will have a new gen of AMD Ryzen APU's (CPU's with iGPU's which actually rival some of the modern GPU's, not the high end ones for now tho) or the fancy NPU's? :lunar2020thinkingtiger: Time will tell.

I'd love to see a Steam Cube (like the Gamecube).

It's just a big black cube and its controlled telepathically. Whenever you're in a bad mood it glows red, and when you're happy it turns blue. It also reads your thoughts and views your dreams when you sleep. It's upgradeable, but only when you offer it human sacrifices.

#All hail the Steam cube.
I use my smartphone & Steam Link app. I was told that Steam Deck isn’t worth the hype. Low QL graphics & not all games are compatible.

TBF, what I would want is joystick & button attachments for my phone… sort of like the Switch. Then my whole screen can be the display & have functional controls that aren’t part of the display.

Tempting, does it also includes a copy of Half-Life 3 in exchange for the soul of oneself? :steamhappy: if yes then it's going to be a great platform :lunar2019coolpig:

I use the Razer Kishi V2.

I just wish the buttons weren't the clicky ones. I prefer the rubber conductive pad type.

That's included with the Pro version.

Input delay.
