The most hated mechanics in every video game ever.
1. Mashing a button to open a door / lift a hatch / pull an object. Seriously developers cut this ♥♥♥♥ out.

2. Time limits on exploring due to some hazard in the air. Why are you rushing me through a part of that game that so many people enjoy?

3. Ridiculously slow climbing / recovery animations. Why is it taking me 5 whole seconds to pull myself up from a ledge? Or 2 seconds to start climbing a rope I've just grabbed?

4. Holding to loot. Why are you making me hold a button for 2 seconds to search / loot a cupboard?

There's others but these are the worst ones for me. It makes playing a game with these mechanics so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ painful. Even if I was a realistic experience, I still just want a smooth fluid game player experience.

All these extra baggage just slows down the game and makes it frustrating.

In no particular order

⚡️ timed missions resulting in failure

⚡️ unavoidable instakill mechanics

⚡️ forced romance (all kinds)

⚡️ forced "remove all your weapons/gear and start over from scratch with crappy weapons you never use". I've got at least 2 games that do it at least once per playthrough. One of them does it 3 times.

⚡️ blatant DEI content (characters, stories, sidequests etc) that serve no actual purpose in the game other than forced "inclusion"

⚡️ tedious forced back-tracking, runaround or detour (you gotta go through this pointless area and solve these pointless puzzles just to get a key to open the gate you need to go through)

⚡️ being forced to play as visually ugly characters

⚡️ useless & arrogant devs who don't know what they're doing and keep ruining the game further with each newer patch.

that's all I got off the top of my head.

lmfao are u serious
Scooter from Catch-A-Ride. His critical stations are always broken and come with super annoying fetch quests to fix them.
In most of the games that have a scripted romance I actually enjoyed the story. Lufia 2 and FF8 come to mind. I enjoy a good story with character development and seeing banter and interactions between two romantic characters is good stuff.

I'm suspicious that most of the criticism for this would be from the peanut gallery who want all video game characters to be gay. Which would be like 1% of gamers and shouldn't qualify as a "most hated mechanic"
Lets see qte looking at you resi 6
Auto lvling
And ofc crappy unfun minigames
And the cake puzzles wich uses obscure refrences not in game as if iknow every soundtrack of x band

In general, I don't like QTEs, mainly because they make going from a Playstation Controller to an Xbox controller (or vice versa) cause you to mess up sometimes.
Quick Time Events

Escort missions with suicidal NPCs.

Press E for everything and hope it does the right thing at the right moment.
health regeneration
plot armour
bullet sponges
levelling systems that block off features until you level enough
insulting hints and markers ("find the hidden item we marked on the map for you")
being told what to do instead of learning naturally

True story, I've used Xbox and Nintendo controllers enough that when I see A or B pop up on screen, I'm not sure if they mean the bottom or right face button, so I've even modded some games to just use the PlayStation prompts because there is no way to confuse them.

I'm part Gemini, I think fast. that's 8 more than YOU came up with, wench!
I don't have any mechanics I outright hate but anything that plays like red dead redemption 2 is slow and tedious to play for me.
For me it depends on the game and what I am expecting from it.

Dishonored - absolutely brilliant game. BUT cannot go back to do levels with my super powers. I don't even care if it counts to anything I still would like to play the other levels powered up.

Random Encounters - I mean in the FF7 and FF8 sense. (cant remember bout the other FF).
I just want to play the game and get on with the story its a fun adventure lets get on with it. Making constant encounters is not that fun and worse that you 'need' to do them to level up and so on just is the pits.
It is why I have not gone back to FF7 even though I'd like to experience the original again.

Forced moving controller - The motion thing on ps3 for killzone just ruined the experience. For whatever reason it would not work and i restarted and restarted and it killed that atmosphere off, looked it up and changed something cant remember what but it meant i could go and play the story. Unfortunately the suspension of disbelief had been lost and always had that feeling of 'hope it does not break again' while playing.
Kills the immersion of the game.
(some games it works but for Killzone I am conflicted ).

Bad writing font - when it is unclear, even on super sharp monito / tv big screen, because somebody in design thought lets make it look fancy - and then fails to make it actually clear to read easily.
I cant fking stand "mini game" mechanics in games. Like "tap the button to keep it in the green section of the meter"

They did this with fishing for a game I really love. Where as before to fish, you just had to cast out and wait. His animations were automatic and you could just sit back and enjoy listening to the water, and the sounds of the rod and reel and the birds. Nope, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mini game now.
