Do you observe your thoughts
Do you observe your thoughts or does your mind seem to act on its own? I want to see how many people are actually capable of meta cognition and to what degree.

Sure I observe "my" thoughts. But not sure what your mind acting on its own is supposed to be.
Who doesn’t debate themselves from time to time?

So you don’t ever debate if you should get this or that? You just go through with it? I mean… it’s your life.

I take this to mean impulsive thoughts vs thoughts that are more like dialogue or only go as far as active contribution allows.

Ohhhhh. I gotcha. Forget everything I said then.

Nah I mean you're right. Like I have a lot of thoughts that are like an internal debate like that. Especially like you suggested, the 'should I get this or that'. But this also made me think of something my coworker said to me recently. His girlfriend asked him if he thinks in English or Spanish. And to him it was a weird question, because he said his thoughts aren't verbal, they're just conceptual. And this is crazy to me because so much of my thinking is a mix of conceptual, imagery and verbalization.

What is there to debate?

If I need or want something then I will go get it.

If its too inconvenient then I won't get it and find another option.

My time is too limited to get much of anything anyway. I am not accustumed to the pace of time in this place so I end up not doing much at all and no point in getting things I won't have time to use anyway.
Is this relating to the phenomenon of holding an argument with yourself in the shower?

If so, yes.

Its the only way I win imaginary fights with my wife.
i have brain blasts like jimmy neutron:cf_Taokaka:
Hopefully everyone. Self-awareness. Thinking how stupid or aggressive something sounds before you post it. All good advice everyone needs.
I dont really understand what you are asking lol but i think i do. For example if i am thinking something horrible or i am about to say something that might hurt somebody's feelings i stop myself before i do it. So if you meant that then yes :3 :bluerune::luv:
I force myself to think verbally but only after the thoughts have happened.

Generally speaking it is hard to say what my thoughts are I would say they are like tides and the sea or "space" things emerge, tides clash, or tides merge and so on.

I used to write entire essays and projects without any notes, i saw notes as a waste of time - why do double work? why make something incredibly inferior then only to improve on it?

In days when the printer would not work on my C64 and the computers were not all that at school, writing by hand was quite a challenge considering how much of it we had to do - a trait amongst many people, while others are fine with it.

If I am starting a part of a project or new project it takes a few days for the groundwork mentally to prepare and build up and so when I come to get on with it the brain is already in that 'mode' for work.
Problem with that is its very fragile at that stage so if a big distraction happens then bam its a lot of processes thrown into chaos and destroyed and harder to rebuild the mental side of it again.

If that answers your question great if not then i dont know.
Metacognition is more like a subset of self-awareness rather than actual self-awareness. It's not about being concerned with vanity: Ie. Being nice, or overly concerned with how other people perceive you. It's about applying additional processes (thinking, learning, remembering, and problem-solving, on-the-fly) to existing thoughts.

It's like some people are multi-threaded applications, and others are single threaded. There's not necessarily a downside with either. Some geniuses solve maths problems instinctively, for example, but others very much need metacognition to enable their genius.

Personally, I do and I don't. It really depends on my situation and mood. When reading books or working, my thinking tends to slow down because I'm so hyper focused and analytical. When I'm zoned out, aimlessly browsing, or doing routine stuff, my brain tends to autopilot.
