Pleasures untold await...
You see a family of four enjoying a walk outside in total peace. You approach them frantically, disheveled from your trudge through the tunnel.
"Where are the corporate sponsored pride parades?! Or the homeless? The millions of lawless migrants?"
They look at you with a mixture of concern and bewilderment. The father answers.
"Pride? In what? I'm proud of my family, my faith, my country. But there's no parade. We celebrate in small ways - picking up trash, taking care of each other, honoring our beliefs...
The homeless are at the church. There's a shelter there. And the migrants, well, we sent them back home. They took advantage of our kindness in a way that wasn't sustainable. For us or for them. But that was decades ago... You seem.. lost. Do you need help?"
You look back at the tunnel, then to the man again. His young son tugs on his pant leg indicating he wants to move on, away from the scary stranger. After a moment of thought, you respond.
"No, I don't need help. I should be going. There are people who need me, now that I know what's possible. I was beginning to think we were all doomed, but you've shown me something very important. Thank you for that."
With that, you run back towards the Tunnel of Homophobia to return to your own time with a sense of renewed hope and purpose.
