How do people get offended by slurs and insults?
I don't think I've ever gotten angry or offended before once in my life. Like, if someone came up to me and told me to go ♥♥♥♥ myself, or called me a cracker, I wouldn't be offended. Like, just how do you get offended by a word? They're just words. Anyone else understand what I mean?

Fortunately we are all not the same, otherwise it would be a very dull party.
"I don't think I've ever gotten angry in my entire life"

You are speed running to get people to call you a liar.

But a peacefull party nonetheless. :P
People are weak and fragile and have never been bullied or had anything bad ever happen to them

There are finite number of times you can chant "we are borg" before it just loses any feeling.

But don't mind me, I'm just here to see how long this thread goes before a slur gets dropped.

For some people that is how they view at the world: opportunities to get offended, feel insecure, etc. Word, silence, behavior X or its opposite -- those are just random excuses.

Having 2-3 generations of spolied brats inevitably breeds lots of those.
I don't get offended by words, but I absolutely do get offended by intent. The language you use in and of itself is of little importance. If I know what's in your heart, I won't jump down your throat for saying a slur in the context of a joke. Similarly, it doesn't matter if you remain politically correct as you humiliate someone.

To allow yourself to be insulted is not thick skin, it's literally weakness, and I've been taught not to "ignore bullies" but to face them head-on.

I don't get it either, sticks and stones...
Personally, I think it's very funny and one can have a good laugh about it. Overall, people aren't even experienced enough in insults; they often just use some memorized little words like "passive-aggressive" and apply them indiscriminately to everything.
Because the insults resonates with them on a personal level, being insulted by someone who intends to cause you distress with what they are saying is obviously disrespectful. It depends as well who it is doing the insulting, if its online or a person you dont know its really easy to just ignore, but if it were somebody you were close with or who you felt you shared a bond with then the words can cut very very deep :bluerune::luv:
Depend.
IRL? Might loose my temper yeah.
Online? I find it funny.
But never offended.

Words are wind, but some have never experienced physical pain inflected by others (that is a good thing that they have not) and thus the verbal attacks/discrimination becomes all they know and fear.. Albeit I support saying no to prolonged verbal discrimination, I still think most small cases are overblown.

Anyway....

A stupid statement. I've absolutely experienced both, and I fear humiliation far, far more than physical pain.

Well for starters, they're often as annoying as you.
If you really need to know why others are pathetic, just paint a picture.

words like cracker are not really offensive as the nword or other slurs because white people are not materially and socially discriminated in the west because of their race whereas the Nword is perjorative against black people invented and mostly used by white people because of white supremacy.

also, slurs and insults are the same thing

being of a minority group and being called a racial slur would be pretty normal to get offended tbh and i would probablly be offended as well, due to it being a perjorative word used by white supremacists that discriminate based off of race

but for example, if black people create a slur to refer to white supremacists perjoratively it wouldnt really be offensive unless you are a part of that group particularly, and idc about the feelings of white supremacists so whatever

It's a matter of personal pride. Those who look down on you cannot be allowed into your life. Not personal, not professional, not intimate. You can't laugh with people who laugh at you.

Doesn't mean you're always on your guard. I always assume the best, and give people leeway. But when a pattern forms, you have to put your foot down. That sticks and stones nonsense is gonna turn you into a beaten dog that no one can take seriously.
