Hollywood casting, ever wonder how much it's changed us?
Over the decades, casting agents make decisions: "He's a hero. He's a bad guy. She's not just pretty enough... her ass/tits are too large/small." And then we digest the media, meaning we essentially rubber stamp casting decisions, internalizing the data. And I've often wondered how this affects us, long term. Thoughts?

Zizek once opined that "Cinema is the ultimate pervert art. It doesn't give you what you desire - it tells you how to desire."

and he's not wrong, though his opinion is up for discussion.

Ya dont say!?
The full quote for the uninitiated:

"The problem for us is not whether our desires are satisfied or not. The problem is how do we know what we desire? There is nothing spontaneous, nothing natural about human desires. Our desires are artificial – we have to be taught to desire.

Cinema is the ultimate pervert art. It doesn’t give you what you desire, it tells you how to desire.”

Well its failing hard at this point, that's what happens when you try to force a desire that doesn't align with reality.

The Amish or Aficans don't need TV. That quote is a joke.

Why would it affect anyone? They need to fill the roles with people, and as far as I'm concerned, whether it's TV or movies, the casting worked just fine in the vast majority of cases (and when I didn't like a character it's hard to tell whether it's intentional or not).

He's a hero. He's a bad guy.

Some actors actively refuse roles (or leave shows) to avoid typecasting. I don't really have a problem with that, though.

In fact, me recognizing an actor is kind of rare. Yes, I did recognize MacGyver on Stargate or Hercules commanding the Andromeda; however, I did not know that (as an example) Draco Malfoy went to Central City under the guise of one "Julian Albert" aka Alchemy.

please share the way you 'rubber stamp' things. is it internal? or do you have an actual rubber stamp that you use when watching shows?
