mixing class combos and abilities, making obscenely broken combinations as the game progresses.
like:
- monk/thief
- knight/mystic
- black mage/orator
- ninja/monk
- mediator/chemist
- black mage/arithmetician
the "reward" for grinding these out is very worth it, and very cool to witness.
Then halfway through the game you end up having to revisit every area and basically replay the whole game again but in a boss rush sort of mode where each time the paired bosses are different.
Not really need to grind but to reach max level would take a lot of grinding.
The Pixel Remasters are such a disappointment, cutting the challenge dungeons and superbosses.
Not only is it really long, but it expects you to beat it multi times. And you need a guide to get the "true" ending. Game even comes with an autobattle...
Newer than that...., I just don't play jrpgs anymore
the FF3 remake also was pretty grindy, but that was more out of difficulty. i actually adored how bizarrely difficult that version was, i wish more FF games would strive to be this.
