Mayonnaise is a bit fattier and less runny than ketchup though so I do like the result of using may better since it is less damaging to the fry. It might sound weird, but tartar sauce is mayonnaise based, and surely you have eaten tartar sauce with fish 'n chips before.
You're actually supposed to use mustard though.
fries need to be eaten with mayo exclusively.,
a bit of peanutsauce to mix things up.. may be forgiven
but any person who put catsup on fries needs to be covered in tar and feathers and driven out of town!
I used to buy it all the time because my roomate would use all of my ketchup but was allergic to eggs.
I have done straight mayo on fries though. It's pretty good.
Not as good as the mayo-instead-of-butter grilled cheese hack though.
