It should be illegal to lay hardwood flooring in an apartment.
It's probably the single most inconsiderate thing someone can do while living in an apartment that isn't the ground floor. I think it should actually be illegal because there is literally a 100% chance that you will hear every footstep, every move of a chair, every dropped object from the person above you.

They don't even have to be careless, it's just guaranteed to be loud because wood floor essentially magnifies every sound. Walking normally on hard wood floor probably gives off the same amount of sound as someone with carpet that has bricks tied to their ankles.

Carpet is horrible for stains and if you have pets and is impossible to clean properly unless you have a vax, id prefer wood flooring to the carpet i have now the noise for my neighbors isn't my problem lol :bluerune::luv:

It... depends on quite a few factors.

How thick is the concrete layer that separates floor and ceiling?

What quality does the wood have?

Was the hardwood floor laid out on foam padding to dampen sound or directly on the concrete?

If you add a linoleum layer and on top of that a foam padding and then the hardwood, the sound will be almost non-existent.
OP without a hardwood floor how would the other apartments appreciate my tap dancing?

What do you think about vinyl flooring?

I have vinyl flooring in my room and it is quite easy to clean and the stone tile texture looks nice too.

Can't you just take your shoes off when you enter your apartment, wipe your dogs / cats paws after they come inside, and just don't spill stuff on your carpet?

thats what i have, not that i care
im getting tired of the apartment life, i want to live in a mansion or a manor or a castle already
Is that so?

Not long ago you were crowing about how good it is to be on the top floor.

Did they add another floor?

You wouldn't be lying to us?

I do that its just a lot of effort compared to wood/vinyl flooring, with pets as well i was talking more fur than anything my dog molts a lot so im constantly trying to keep it clean. I know people will say dont have him in your room, but he cries literally all night outside my door otherwise and then i feel bad lol :bluerune::luv:
More noise for the neighbours yay
Carpet in apartments sucks, because more often than not, it's decades old and who knows what bodily fluids are stained into that and it's just forever gross.

No, I'm making this post retrospectively. Just thinking about to all the banging I heard previously and how quiet I am with my carpet. The neighbour below me must love me.

I actually agree, if you're renting then you probably don't want to move into somewhere that has carpet that's 10 years old. Although I think landlords that do lay carpet typically change it with each new tenant to make it more attractive to the potential renter.

Assuming the previous renter was in there for a good few years of course.
